WA Country Health Service is seeking an experienced psychiatrist to step into a senior clinical leadership role shaping mental health services across the Kimberley.
The Director or Clinical Services – Mental Health provides senior clinical leadership across mental health and Alcohol and Other Drug services throughout the Kimberley.
Working in partnership with the Regional Manager of Mental Health and AOD, the Clinical Director has primary responsibility for clinical governance and leadership in relation to clinical service delivery across the Broome Hospital Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU) and the Regional Community Based Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Services.
This is an opportunity for an experienced psychiatrist to influence the development of regional mental health services, strengthen clinical practice and support the delivery of safe, high-quality care across a geographically dispersed service environment. The role combines clinical practice with strategic leadership, service development, workforce capability and medical education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical governance, strategic development and leadership, ensuring adherence to national mental health standards, WA Mental Health Act (2014) and other legislation and regulations.
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment supporting high-quality, evidence based care for consumers, families and carers.
- Collaborate with the mental health leadership team to shape service development and align regional priorities with Commonwealth, State, and WACHS mental health strategies.
- Provides clinical leadership across the Broome Hospital APU and regional community mental health and AOD services, including consultation-liaison psychiatry to regional hospitals.
- Provides supervision, mentorship and professional support to psychiatry trainees and medical health workforce across the Kimberley, in accordance with RANZCP requirements.
- Support the professional development and clinical capability of the multidisciplinary workforce through clinical supervision, education and leadership.
Requirements
We are seeking an experienced psychiatrist who brings:
- Unconditional Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP).
- Senior clinical and/or medical leadership experience, with the ability to provide effective clincial governance and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong generalist psychiatric skills, including experience across mental health and alcohol and other drug services.
A commitment to medical education, workforce development and culturally safe practice. - The ability to work collaboratively with clinical, operational and community stakeholders in a regional and geographically dispersed environment.
