Welcome to Mount Prospect Academy!


MPA is a rapidly growing nonprofit agency, which has evolved to offer a variety of mental & behavioral health support services to a diverse population of “hard to treat” and “difficult to place” adolescence.


Our targeted services include home and community-based treatment, residential treatment programs, group homes, and special education schools. MPA is known for its ability to achieve successful outcomes with difficult-to-serve individuals throughout New England.

These symptoms often present as self-harm, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, aggression, suicidality, as well as disordered eating. We believe the students who come to us deserve a safe and secure environment where they can find hope and healing.

Company History

The mission of Mount Prospect Academy is to provide a caring safe therapeutic environment where students have the opportunity to grow and acquire the skills, they need to reach their educational and social potential. We aim to develop trusting relationships with students and facilitate experiences that promote their ability to self-regulate; manage thoughts and feelings; and develop feelings of safety, confidence, and competency.

To this end, Mount Prospect Academy provides a trauma informed continuum of care inclusive of Enhanced Residential Treatment, Crisis Stabilization, Comprehensive Assessment and Short-term Treatment, Subacute Programming, Academic programming, Adventure Based Programming and Community-based Programming throughout New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine. We offer accredited academic day programs serving students 220 days a year through differentiated instruction and engaging extended learning opportunities. Our intensive residential and subacute programs operate year-round and provide substantive support for families and caregivers. MPA currently serves approximately 190 intensive residential students whose ages range from 11-21 and over 500 community-based families annually.

MPA has a long-established history of providing superior treatment and care to students and clients with a variety of educational needs. Our academic programs are thoughtfully designed to effectively meet the academic and social/emotional goals of students with specific learning disabilities, intellectual disorders, autism spectrum disorders, emotional disturbance and “other” health impairments. We use an integrated treatment approach and aim to motivate, educate, and empower our students to reach their highest potential. MPA provides students with the tools they will need to become contributing citizens within the community. Through active engagement in academic and vocational experiences, we prepare our students for the business of life. Our phased based approach to treatment has demonstrated effectiveness in treating individuals who are challenged by a myriad of psychiatric disorders including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, attention deficit disorders, conduct disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder and substance use disorders. MPA has a commitment to working with youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system and believe that effective treatment has the potential to ameliorate the symptoms that contributed to the youth’s engagement in high-risk behaviors. We take pride in our sustained pattern of collaboration with a variety of community stakeholders and regularly receive students from the care of their families, New Hampshire’s Division of Children Youth, and Families (DCYF), The Sununu Youth Services Center, and intermediate care facilities such as the Nashua Children’s Home, the Dover Children’s Home, the Webster House, and the Orion House. MPA is a proud supporter of the Building Bridges Initiative and is guided by the Joint Resolution to Advance a Statement of Shared Core Principles. As a stakeholder in the system of care, we seek to “advance partnerships among residential and community- based service providers and the individuals and families we serve.”

We have learned over time that offering our clients a safe and supportive environment where they can begin to establish a pattern of stability is critical to treatment engagement and healing. We believe that treatment experiences should be customized, and strength-based honoring the preferences of those with whom we work. Our treatment programming is thoughtfully designed to assess the unique challenges and potential for growth in our clients. As such, our approach to treatment is grounded in a variety of trauma informed and evidenced based practices such as EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), TF-CBT (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Motivational Interviewing and the ARC Model (Attachment, Regulation, and Competency). We acknowledge that the process of treatment is best approached with the goal of achieving wellness and resilience across all life areas. Therefore, we offer a range of adjunctive treatments and recreational activities in order to cultivate feelings of confidence, competence, and mastery.
