We are seeking multiple highly ambitious, independent, and motivated postdoctoral scientists in the Department Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics (HOBI) at University of Florida.  The position will require collaboration with a diverse range of faculty, scientists, and health professionals not only in the Department but across the University of Florida Health Science Center on the design, coordination, and implementation of informatics and data science research for federal and state funded projects.  In particular, the candidate will be part of the newly created Office of Data Science Research (ODSR) in the OneFlorida+ Clinical Research Consortium (OneFlorida+ CRC).  The ODSR is led by the Chief Data Scientist of the OneFlorida+ network (who also serves as the Chief Data Scientist for the UF Health system) along with a number of other informatics and health outcomes faculty and a group of postdocs, PhD students, staff data scientists, and project managers.

 The OneFlorida+ CRC is a collaborative network that seeks to improve health research capacity and opportunities through the facilitation of clinical and translation research in communities and health care settings.  OneFlorida+ includes 10 health system and clinical partners in Florida and also metropolitan sites in Atlanta Georgia and Birmingham Alabama.  The University of Florida (UF) serves as the Coordinating Center.  Our diverse health settings include academic health centers, statewide and regional health systems, federally qualified health centers and safety-net behavioral health providers.  With 16.8M patients in Florida, 2.1M patients in Georgia and 9.1K patients in Alabama (19.9M total), OneFlorida+ contribute uniquely to national patient-centered research network (PCORnet) established by PCORI with strengths in the diversity of patient populations and settings.

 The postdoctoral research associate is expected to work on research projects that:

(1) utilize real-word data (RWD), such as those in electronic health records (EHRs) and administrative claims;

(2) integrate RWD with other data sources such as clinical notes (through natural language processing), genomics and imaging for outcomes research;

(3) develop and apply novel data science methods including machine-/deep-learning methods;

(4) develop and apply novel causal inference, especially causal AI methods.

 The positions will be funded for 2 years (second year appointment is based on performance on the first year).  For more information about the department, please visit:

  1. Have a Ph.D. in related fields (computer science/engineering, biomedical informatics, information science, data science, (applied) mathematics, (bio)-statistics, or physics). Doctoral training in data science will be a plus.
  2. Research experience with EHRs and claims data is a plus.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Have at least two first-author papers in highly recognized data science and informatics journals or conference proceedings.
  4. Be extremely good at programming and have experience in data science.
  5. Practical experience in data science, predictive modeling, deep learning, causal inference and causal AI will be a plus.
  6. Be able to successfully interact with diverse stakeholders, including clinicians, basic scientists, and translational researchers.
