Description
We are seeking an innovative and collaborative Clinical and Sport Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team. This newly created position provides a unique opportunity to develop and shape a fully integrated sport psychology and mental health program within a comprehensive sports medicine model. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with leaders across Sports Medicine, Psychiatry, and Orthopedics to establish strategic partnerships, develop innovative programming, and expand access to evidence-based mental health and performance services for athletes throughout the region.
Based primarily in Baltimore, Maryland, this position offers a hybrid work model with opportunities for both in-person and virtual clinical services.
This role is ideal for a psychologist who is passionate about mental performance enhancement, interdisciplinary collaboration, program development, community outreach, and clinical care. The position will support athletes across the lifespan, including youth, high school, collegiate, recreational, and elite performers, while helping build a regional center of excellence in sport psychology and athlete mental health.
Primary Responsibilities
Clinical and Sport Psychology Services
Provide evidence-based psychological services to athletes presenting with performance, mental health, injury recovery, and life-transition concerns.
Deliver individual psychotherapy, sport psychology consultation, and mental performance services.
Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic health record.
Injured Athlete Programming
Develop and implement psychological support services for injured athletes.
Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and sports medicine providers to support rehabilitation and return-to-play processes.
Design group and individual interventions addressing injury adjustment, recovery, resilience, and return-to-sport readiness.
Community-Based Sport Psychology and Life Skills Programming
Design and implement innovative community-based sport psychology and life skills programs.
Develop educational workshops focused on mental health, performance enhancement, resilience, leadership, confidence, stress management, and well-being.
Create programming that expands access to mental health resources for youth athletes and underserved populations.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Serve as an integral member of a multidisciplinary sports medicine team.
Collaborate closely with providers from Psychiatry, Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training.
Participate in case consultation, care coordination, and program development initiatives.
Community Outreach and Strategic Partnerships
Develop and maintain relationships with local schools, colleges, athletic organizations, and community partners.
Represent the organization through presentations, educational programming, and outreach initiatives.
Identify opportunities for growth and strategic partnerships that enhance athlete mental health and performance services throughout the region.
Requirements
Education
Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
Licensure
Current licensure as a psychologist in the State of Maryland, or eligibility to obtain Maryland licensure within six months of hire.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience providing psychological services.
Demonstrated experience providing sport psychology and/or mental performance services.
Experience facilitating group interventions and psychoeducational programming.
Experience working with athletes and diverse populations.
Experience utilizing electronic health record systems.
Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) certification through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), or eligibility for certification.
Experience working within sports medicine, orthopedic, collegiate athletics, professional sports, or high-performance environments.
Experience developing community-based, school-based, or outreach mental health programs.
Experience designing and implementing new programs.
Experience working with underserved and culturally diverse populations.
Experience providing services to youth and teen athletes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of psychotherapy and clinical/counseling psychology.
Expertise in mental performance and sport psychology interventions.
Knowledge of psychological factors influencing injury recovery, rehabilitation adherence, and athletic performance.

Demonstrated multicultural counseling competence.
Knowledge of and adherence to ethical, legal, and professional standards governing psychological practice.
