Under general supervision, is responsible for assessment of patients, leading individual and group activity therapy sessions, and integrating an activity therapy component into patients' interdisciplinary treatment programs.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
Performs activity therapy assessment for assigned patients to determine patient's treatment needs and records assessments.
Develops an individualized activity therapy treatment plan based on assessment and integrates this plan with that of other team members in interdisciplinary team meetings.
Provides individual and group activity therapy sessions for patients and records patients' response to treatment in EPIC according to hospital policy.
Provide opportunities for socialization, communication and self-expression
Provides comforting presence to help patients cope with mental health issues
Inventories and tracks activity therapy supplies and equipment for reordering.
Provides in-service training to other staff members as requested.
Assists in the physical management of patients as needed using CPI approved techniques.
Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow ICARE Values.
Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider, organizational confidentiality and HIPAA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPAA Privacy and Security Procedures.
Follows established HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information.
Maintains and protects patients' rights under the HIPAA Privacy Standards.
Job Requirements
General Requirements
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification within 90 days of hire or prior to completion of orientation. Maintains CPI certification throughout employment Preferred - Current registration or certification in professional discipline Preferred - Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)
Work Experience
Minimum one year experience working with mentally ill population
Education
Bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, music therapy, art therapy, or drama therapy. Recipient Rights training with 30 days of hire and annually thereafter. Corporate Compliance training with 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated skill in individual and group activity therapy Demonstrated skill providing in-service trainings or public speaking Experience working with interdisciplinary team Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job
