The Fono is a trusted Pacific health and social services provider delivering integrated, community-led care. We are seeking a Registered Psychologist to join our LagiOla – Healthy Minds team and work alongside Pacific families using culturally grounded, evidence-based approaches.
This is a rewarding role for a psychologist who values relationships, collaboration, and equity, and who wants to work within a genuinely integrated primary care and community setting.
About the role
You will be co-located within one of The Fono’s GP practices and work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Community Support Workers, Health Coaches, Psychiatry, Brief Intervention Mind Health Practitioners, and Community Navigators.
Using Talanoa and Pacific models of care, you will provide high-quality psychological assessment and intervention to individuals, families, and groups experiencing mild to moderate psychological distress. You will also support the wider practice team through consultation, supervision, and shared care.
This role works closely with Whnau Ora, Dental, Social Services, Public Health, and education services within The Fono to support holistic wellbeing outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-informed psychological assessments and interventions using Pacific approaches
- Walk alongside clients and families to reduce distress and improve well-being
- Provide consultation, advice, and psychological input to MDT and practice teams
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in line with registration and organisational requirements
- Participate in supervision, MDT case reviews, and service development initiatives
- Contribute to quality improvement, reporting, and service evaluation
- Uphold health and safety, quality assurance, and ethical practice standards
About you
You are a reflective, culturally responsive psychologist who enjoys working collaboratively and values strong relationships with clients, families, and colleagues.
You will bring:
- Registration as a Registered Psychologist with a current APC
- Experience delivering psychological interventions in health or community settings
- A strong understanding of, or commitment to learning, Pacific cultures, values, and approaches
- Confidence working within multidisciplinary teams and primary care environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and culturally safe practice
- Spoken Pacific language skills are an advantage but not essential.
