QCS has multiple exciting opportunities throughout Queensland to join our team as a Mental Health Clinician.
In each Correctional Centre, QCS provides a range of mental health services to adults in our care. QCS is changing how we deliver these services and there has never been a better time to come to work with us.
We are seeking early career and experienced Psychologists, Social Workers and Occupational Therapists who want to be part of these crucial centre-based teams.
The Numinbah Correctional Centre is a low security centre located 100 kilometres south of Brisbane in the Gold Coast hinterland. The centre and surrounding property
is located on over 770 hectares. The centre encourages a self-directed rehabilitation model to prepare prisoners for release to the community or community-based
supervision. Prisoners are encouraged to work and obtain new skills, with work including landscaping, Pups in Prison program, sewing, and farm work. To ensure a strong and well supported start, the successful candidate will spend a minimum of four weeks onboarding at the Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre in Wacol. This provides access to a larger team and broader learning opportunities, helping you build confidence and capability before transitioning to the Numinbah Correctional Centre. Please keep this temporary travel requirement in mind when applying.
Lotus Glen Correctional Centre: This Centre, 85 km’s from Cairns, accommodates high and low security prisoners and provides remand and reception. As it is people
centred, it aims to build cultural safety in the programs and services the QCS Mental Health Services team provide to support the prisoner population to improve
outcomes.
No two days will ever be the same; you will manage a challenging case load, be exposed to on the job learning like no other role, all while providing quality clinical
services that include assessments and tailored interventions that support mental health and wellbeing.
Your excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to collaborate and work effectively and sensitively with a diverse range of colleagues and individuals in custody.
As a member of this team, you will also:
Conduct independent risk assessments of harm to self or others, including acute or chronic risk
Provide psychoeducation related to mental health conditions, symptoms and treatment options to individuals
Deliver individual or group-based skill acquisition focused interventions aimed at developing coping skills and building resilience
Maintain a high level of knowledge and contemporary understanding of psychopathology, diagnostic classification systems and clinical and psychometric assessment tools

Requirements
Mandatory requirements
The following mandatory requirements apply to this role:
For Psychologists
Possession of a degree from a registered tertiary institution in psychology or behavioural science
Hold either general or provisional registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA or be eligible for
registration as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
For Social Workers
It is a mandatory requirement for all Social Work positions that the candidate is eligible for membership
of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Eligibility is dependent on the candidate
having completed a University Level Social Work degree accredited by the AASW.
Overseas qualified Social Work candidates require a "certification of eligibility" letter from the AASW to
confirm their eligibility for membership of AASW. Overseas qualified applicants should include such
evidence with their application to be considered for short listing in the selection process.
For Occupational Therapists
Possession of a degree in occupational therapy from a recognised tertiary institution,
The successful applicant must also hold or be eligible for registration with the Occupational Therapy
Board of Australia/AHPRA.
