Description
Background
At Value Life Psychology (valuelifepsychology.com), we’re a psychologist-led practice, and that matters here.
We are not a big company. We don’t believe in cutting corners or treating psychologists like interchangeable providers. This practice started small, grew thoughtfully, and has stayed grounded in what matters most: excellent clinical care, preparation, humility, and real human connection.
Most of our practice is on-site at facilities and around work with elderly individuals and stroke survivors at some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. That work requires presence, patience, and a deep respect for the people we serve. We care deeply about our patients, the facilities we partner with, and the psychologists who choose to do this work with us.
We are now ready to grow, and we’re looking for psychologists who want to lean into a growing practice. Someone who takes pride in doing things the right way, even when no one is watching. Someone who enjoys meeting patients and spreading their impact.
We’ll give you the tools and handle all of the background tasks so you can focus on what you do best. We’ll also provide extensive training and ongoing opportunities for learning & development. We’re here to help make sure you can do your best work.
Most importantly, we’re flexible around your life. If you are looking for something just half a day on weekends or you are looking to jump in full-time, we have plenty of opportunities for you to make an impact with patients around your schedule.
If this sounds like a fit, read on.
Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and dedicated licensed clinical psychologist to provide in-person psychological services to elderly individuals and stroke survivors across nursing homes and care & rehabilitation centers in Northern New Jersey. This position is ideal for someone who is deeply empathetic, clinically skilled, and takes pride in being fully prepared for each intake, session, and treatment plan.
- Intake assessments: reviewing medical history, stroke-related impairments, cognitive functioning, emotional state, and family dynamics.
- Individual Psychotherapy (Short & Standard Sessions): Provide structured psychotherapy that supports emotional processing, adjustment to disability, grief, depression, anxiety, and isolation commonly experienced by elderly and post-stroke patients. Use a patient-centered and trauma-informed approach.
- Family Psychotherapy with Patient Present: Facilitate joint therapy sessions with patients and their families to improve communication, reduce caregiver stress, and promote a shared understanding of recovery expectations.
- Maintain detailed, accurate clinical documentation in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
- Prepare in advance for all sessions, including reviewing prior notes, patient history, and coordinating with medical and care teams.
- Build trusting, respectful relationships with residents, families, and staff in nursing and rehab settings. We’re the kind of people who remember the names of the nursing staff. You’ll have a discretionary budget to buy treats to thank them for all the work they do.
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care, including occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech pathology, and social work.
Compensation & Benefits:
We believe psychologists should be generously compensated for their expertise, consistency, preparation, and ability to serve many patients well. Our pay structure reflects that. We also recognize that psychologists may need more flexible schedules or reduced caseloads to prevent burnout, which we also applaud. Accordingly, we have options when it comes to schedules and compensation.
Still, to give a sense, a full-time psychologist who works across multiple facilities and completes a high volume of intake evaluations can earn $270,000+ annually, inclusive of performance-based bonuses. We're hiring for both part- and full-time.
Other benefits:
A psychologist-friendly culture
Flexible scheduling options (ideal for candidates seeking part-time). Weekends and evenings are an option.
Malpractice insurance coverage.
Mileage reimbursement and/or travel stipend.
Ongoing supervision and training opportunities.
Opportunities for leadership advancement as the practice grows.
Not sure this role is exactly right?
The above description may not fit exactly what you are looking for, and that is okay. That said, if you’re a licensed psychologist who shares our values but is seeking a more traditional private practice setting – or if you’re a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) doing thoughtful, high-quality work – we’d still love to hear from you.
We’re growing carefully and always open to conversations with clinicians who care deeply about doing this work well. Please contact us with a letter about who you are and what you are looking for.
Requirements

Current, valid NJ psychologist license in good standing.
Deep sense of kindness, patience, and empathy when working with vulnerable and medically complex individuals.
Willingness to travel to multiple locations within Northern NJ as needed. We'll prioritize facilities based on your location.
