Job Purpose:
The Department of Psychology at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor position (tenure-track) in Clinical Psychology beginning August 16, 2026. Area of specialization within clinical psychology is open, though applicants with a focus on applied behavior analysis (ABA) and/or clinical developmental psychology are especially encouraged to apply. We seek candidates who demonstrate an active program of research in clinical psychology and who are able to mentor undergraduate students (please note that this is an academic versus practice-oriented position). We are especially interested in scholars whose research engages with or includes historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups, broadly defined (e.g., race/ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, disability status, or other dimensions of human difference). Candidates whose work advances inclusive excellence and contributes to a deeper understanding of diverse human experiences are strongly encouraged to apply.
Ideal candidates will have record of teaching undergraduates from a variety of backgrounds and identities, including those historically marginalized in the sciences (e.g., first-generation students, students from low-income families, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities).

Essential Functions:
- Teach 9 credit hours of courses each semester, typically 3 lecture sections. Courses will include a mixture of introductory-level, upper division required, and elective courses. Teaching areas will be matched to candidates' preparation and interests, according to program and department needs. The position will maintain a teaching load of 18 credits per year - 3 lecture courses a semester (9 contact hours per week) and should be able to teach introductory Psychology, Research Methods, Psychopathalogy, Clinical/Counseling Psychology, and/or advanced seminar courses in their area of scholarly expertise.
- Provide academic and career advising and mentoring to 15-25 undergraduate students per year, starting in the second year. Advising students and support the department and university through service.
- Support the Psychology department, university, and discipline through service and other forms of academic citizenship.
- Engage in professional activities that inform teaching, enhance student experience, and help the faculty member to remain current in the field. Maintain standards of professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, or closely related field by July 15, 2026.
- At least one year of experience teaching undergraduate students in relevant courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of engaging, inclusive teaching at the undergraduate level.
- Evidence of effectiveness in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and identities.
- Evidence of effective academic advising of students.
- Evidence of a research program which research engages with or includes historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups.
- Evidence of peer-reviewed scholarship (in print/under review)
