- Assistant Professor of Sport and Exercise Psychology
Description
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a Regular Title Series, tenure-eligible Assistant Professor position, with a focus in Sport and Exercise Psychology (SEP). The appointment will be a nine-month appointment, effective August 15, 2026.

The following qualifications must be met by time of appointment:
- A doctoral degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology, or a closely related area (i.e., Kinesiology, Counseling Psychology, Health Sciences, Exercise Sciences).
Must be a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) program at time of appointment. Preference will be given for applicants who also hold the CMPC mentor designation. - Demonstrated ability in publishing research and applying for/securing external funding.
- Demonstrated ability to teach college-aged populations.
- Demonstrated experience working in applied sport/performance psychology settings.
- Demonstrated experience in supervision/mentorship of graduate students/trainees.
- Demonstrated commitment to the field of Sport and Exercise Psychology (e.g., engagement in AASP, APA, and other related organizations).
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.

Requirements
Primary responsibilities include:
Research
- Develop an active and externally funded research program in sport, exercise, and/or performance psychology.
- Produce high-quality scholarly publications in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals.
- Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to pursue interdisciplinary research opportunities.
- Supervise graduate student research and mentor undergraduate research.
- Disseminate research findings through national and international conferences.
Teaching
- Teach 12 credits per academic year, which includes responsibilities in supervision/mentorship of SEP student applied hours.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses with a primary focus in sport, exercise, and performance psychology, ethics in applied sport psychology, group dynamics, research methods, and/or sport leadership.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
Service
- Participate in departmental, college, and university committees.
- Be an active participant in the SEP undergraduate and graduate programs (implementation, evaluation, and promotion).
- Serve on undergraduate and graduate student thesis/exam committees.
- Contribute to professional organizations (e.g., AASP, APA, ACA, etc.), and engage in community outreach relevant to sport, exercise, and performance psychology.
