Assistant Professor of Industrial-Organizational Psychology

Industrial-Organizational Psychology, part of the Collge of Applied and Natural Sciences, invites applications for an 11-month non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in the MA and PhD Industrial-Organizational Psychology programs.
This is a full-time position starting September 1, 2026, with a possibility of moving to tenure-track in the future. Exceptional candidates with outstanding qualifications and experience may be considered for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
Area of research and expertise is open; preference will be given to applicants with expertise in Research Methods, Employee Selection, Work Motivation, and in fostering equitable and engaging environments where individuals from varied backgrounds can thrive. Teaching and advising responsibilities will be in the graduate department of Industrial-Organizational Psychology.
Qualifications
- Education: Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, or a closely related field (ABD considered with evidence of timely completion).
- Teaching: Evidence of successful undergraduate or graduate teaching and the ability to deliver courses across the curriculum and within your specialization.
- Scholarship: A clear research plan and emerging record of scholarly productivity appropriate to career stage.
- Professional Skills: Strong communication, collegiality, and a student-centered approach to advising and mentoring.
- Mission Alignment: A personal commitment to Christian faith, enthusiasm for supporting SPU’s mission, alignment with the University’s Statement of Faith, and willingness to uphold the lifestyle standards of our Christian community.
- Community Engagement: Demonstrated ability to engage a wide range of perspectives and experiences in teaching and mentoring, contributing to an inclusive learning community where differences are explored with humility and care.

Requirements
- Teach core masters and doctoral courses (e.g., Selection & Performance Management, Motivation, Social Psychology, Research Methods) and electives aligned with expertise.
- Advise and mentor graduate students, support student research, and provide statistical mentoring for student dissertations.
- Maintain an active program of research as appropriate to a teaching-focused appointment.
- Contribute to departmental, college, and university service; collaborate across Psychology units when appropriate (e.g.,Research Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Undergraduate Psychology).
- Cultivate an inclusive classroom environment that engages and supports learners from a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences, encourages dialogue across differences, and enriches the learning experience for all students.
